Thanks to Wassim and amp; Neutek (and or whoever wrote us up thusly) at thecentrifuge.co.uk< a>:

'Formication are a rare breed in electronic music: technically awesome, creatively breathtaking and aesthetically intriguing, this Nottingham-based duo have been perfecting their sound of deconstructed beats, dark soundscapes and concept studio work. They rarely perform live, but when they do sparks fly! All manner of custom- built and handmade instruments take to the stage, making it a feast for all the senses. It’s no wonder that The Wire Magazine has championed them with a Formication track appearing on the cover- mounted CD ‘The Wire Tapper’ in October 2008.'

Expect a Formication release on thecentrifuge.co.uk netlabel very soon.

Formication Interviewed by Regen Mag

Posted: Sunday, February 24, 2008< span>
By: Matthew Johnson< span>
Assistant Editor< span>
Review by: Matthew Johnson< span>< div>
BIOGRAPHY< div>
Sometimes the most mundane soil produces the most inspiring fruit. The roots of Formication lie in the 'drone office jobs' Alec Bowman and Kingsley Ravenscroft shared in the same building. The two started working together under the name Formication after discovering a shared interest in dark electronic music. Drawing on such influences as Coil and Future Sound of London, the duo became incredibly prolific in a relatively short period of time; they've released no fewer than six CD-Rs on their own Harmful Records label, including a limited edition boxed, The Untitled Wasdale Recordings< i>, presented in handmade wooden packaging. Their first commercial release, out last year on the Lumberton Trading Company, is a concept album entitled Icons for a New Religion< i> that combines cut-up samples, industrial textures, and darkly organic rhythms to tell the story of a futuristic utopia's rise and fall. Bowman and Ravenscroft released their newest work, Agnosia< i>, October 12 as both a free download and a low-priced CD, and have made several of their earlier works, including Lost Icons< i>, a series of outtakes from Icons for a New Religion< i>, available for free on the Internet. Bowman and Ravenscroft's current plans include a series of UK gigs, several compilation appearances alongside the likes of Peter Christopherson and Andrew Liles, and a collaboration with legendary experimental musician Aidan Baker.< div>
INTERVIEW< div>
What artists have had the biggest influence on your sound?< b>
Ravenscroft:< b> Oh boy. You know, this is the worst question of all. < p>
Bowman:< b> During all our combined years of hearing sound—be it music, the wind, human and animal voices, trees, water, electricity, or something or nothing—we all become emotive beings and attach varying degrees of importance to it until when someone asks us we feel we can say, 'My favorite band is...' < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> But it's kind of facile to narrow all this down to a few individuals or artists or bands. Who sounds great and relevant to us now may not stay that way. We could copy and paste the file names from our entire MP3 collections, and it still wouldn't be enough to explain why Formication might sound a certain way. We'd prefer to leave it to others to make comparisons, which they're welcome to do, and we're always being told we sound like something or other, and more often than not it's a comparison which we had never considered and we raise the mutual Formication eyebrow and ask them to elucidate. < p>
Bowman:< b> Sometimes they do, and it makes sense, even flatters. Other times... < p>
Your music has often been compared to ritual ambient acts like Coil. Does your work have similar occult underpinnings?< b> < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> We certainly feel in touch with earthly energies. The Untitled Wasdale Recordings< i> could be considered in ritual terms; whether it was occult isn't for us to say. When Wasdale< i> was conceived, we were in tune with the landscape, on the shores of the deepest lake in England and presided over by England's highest mountain, and next to what is apparently the smallest church in England. It's certainly an inspiration being in ancient landscapes. < p>
Bowman:< b> We are interested in alternate states of mind and altered perceptions of reality. That doesn't mean that we get fucked on mescaline or acid and dream in multicolored music 24 hours a day and run about naked. Everyday life is a ritual; people can use our music as a background to their own rituals. When we listen to it now, it does sounds incredibly ritualistic; we'd just climbed Scafell that day and come to within an inch of losing our lives to the winter in a whiteout near the summit, and this shows in the music. Listen to 'Screaming from the Lake' and you'll hear the fear. We left with a lot of respect for that place. < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> We are trying to sound like Formication, which isn't even what each of us individually sounds like, it's what we sound like when we both make music. When we started, we didn't know what Formication would sound like. We just powered up the machines and let them lead us astray. The machines know a lot more than people give them credit for. We have decided to trust them, even when they betray us. Never set out with a finished song in your head, 'cause the machines will just rip it to bits, although this too is a liberating experience. People are in denial about the fact that humanity and all it has created is still natural; a dual-core processor is every bit as natural as a blade of grass or a glacier. < p>
How did the two of you decide to start doing music together, and how did you decide on the name 'Formication' for your project?< b> < p>
Bowman:< b> We worked in drone office jobs together. We met yelling in the lift when I saw Kingsley being chopped in half by the very building itself. A mutual love for the sound of bananas thrown hard against the cold concrete by the out-of-control ceiling fans as large unclean Irish washerwomen looked on, laughing, led to the idea that we should make music together. In fact we ended up wondering why on earth we hadn't started sooner. < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> You make it sound like something that will end. Formication was our name from the beginning, so we didn't have to decide on it at all, but it took months for us to realize. < p>
Tell us about your logo, 'The Formicator.' What is the origin of that illustration, and what does it represent?< b> < p>
Bowman:< b> Kingsley drew it on the floor in his back yard in charcoal in a day of feverish creativity that saw us drawing all kinds of internal phantoms. It's an indistinct, nonexistent, alien pseudo-insect. It's a regal, royal, noble arthropod, a crest of quality. Whatever bears this mark is something we feel strongly about. < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> It's an intricate depiction. You can recognize it even though it's obviously unreal. It's alien and familiar at the same time. < p>
Bowman:< b> For these reasons, we feel that it represents our music well; it's like being lost but with a reference point. You're walking at night along a beach, the fog is low and the fish are hungry, but there is a light; it isn't there constantly, but the hope that whoever made the light might be able to rescue you is enough to keep you going. < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> That is what our music does, and that is why the Formicator is our seal. < p>
Your CD, Icons for a New Religion< i>, is a sort of concept album. For our readers that haven't heard it yet, can you explain the story behind the album?< b> < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> It is a concept album, not a sort of one. We're not afraid of that. A number of reviewers have made the same tentative comment, as if 'concept album' is another word for shit. < p>
Bowman:< b> We were bored of minimal album covers and vague ambiance. We wanted the CD to exist as a collective entity with an overall purpose. Each track is its own thing, but the whole is another. < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> The story is a parable about the tendency of knowledge to corrupt. It's about collective consciousness being greater than the sum of its parts. It is also a story about arrogance, science, knowledge and the politics of all that kind of stuff, a parable about how easily a race can lose sight of its purpose and blindly follow the lead of just a few misguided individuals into oblivion. It's about utter despair, but ultimately it's about hope. < p>
Bowman:< b> We don't want to say too much, though. People should listen to it, read it and apply their own interpretations to it. That's what art is all about. < p>
How did you come up with the story? Were there any authors in particular that inspired the accompanying text in the liner notes?< b> < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> We were inspired by the music. We made a story of what it could mean to us as a whole album. < p>
Bowman:< b> It's less Brave New World< i>, more Lovecraftian: an unfathomable, unnameable terror from the stars, but ultimately it's a tale of humanity. < p>
Although you've released a number of limited edition CD-Rs, Icons for a New Religion< i> is your first commercially-released album. How has the response been so far? Has it brought in a lot of new fans?< b> < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> We're constantly amazed and delighted by the great reviews we get from all over the world, and Icons< i> is getting more than its fair share. It's a strange feeling to go into a record shop in another city and see your CD on the shelf or in the window. Our fan base seems to grow exponentially with each release, and this is no exception. We're very passionate about all our releases—pun intended—and we put a hell of a lot of work into them, and people seem to be recognizing that. < p>
Bowman:< b> It's been phenomenal, and we think it's brought in a lot of new fans. People seem to have really picked up on something in what we made, which is a very satisfying feeling. That said, being 'commercially released' has made almost no difference to that. We got in record shops so our families could coo patronizingly over us, but apart from that, the same people bought it, the same people reviewed it, the same peopled played it on their radio stations. It's just that this effect seems to snowball with each new recording as we further push the envelope. < p>
You've also made a lot of your earlier work available online for free. Was that done as a favor to existing fans, or to generate more awareness of your music? Has it been successful?< b> < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> Both of those, and yes. < p>
Bowman:< b> Whenever we make music, we want to put it out there whether there are fans or not. It's a way to reach people, that's what our music's for. < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> We have a Virb site which we're always putting new free stuff on; it gets plenty of hits, and most of the people visiting go away with at least a couple of downloads. We're still just a tiny voice in the universe, and we've got to shout as loud as we can to be heard. < p>
Bowman:< b> We want awareness of our music. We want to do our friends and fans favors. We don't expect them to buy us yaks; we just want them to understand and enjoy what it is we're trying to do to their insides. We'll need some cash at some point to release more music, and people are cool with that, and so are we. < p>
What is your opinion of the state of the music industry in general? Do you see Radiohead's online CD release as a positive development? As a much more underground act, does it even affect you?< b> < p>
Bowman:< b> Oh dear. Is there a music industry any more? < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> In the UK especially the mainstream music machine is a deplorable sphincter of a thing, pumping out manufactured crap for the masses to roll about in like the proverbial pigs in... There's not an original thought that comes out of it. The good thing is that the industry seems to be faltering; it doesn't understand why decades of anti-piracy laws and millions spent on copy protection software haven't stopped people form amassing vast amounts of free music, and it never will. What record execs overlook is that for every kid who never buys any music and just downloads illegal free stuff, there are ten more who do that and buy records as well, and go to gigs, and investigate new music that they wouldn't necessarily listen to if they had to fork out 14 pounds to buy it on CD. As for Radiohead, good on 'em; anything that confuses the music industry has to be applauded. < p>
Bowman:< b> We've been releasing free stuff for years, though, and it is good to make the kids who only listen to chart music realize there is another way. Home-taping didn't kill music and downloading won't, either; it will just change it. Our latest free release on the Dark Winter net-label, Agnosia< i>, is there for downloading at excellent quality, and it's available to buy as a commercially produced CD. Record shops need to understand that they need to add value to consumers' lives; they need to invent a new reason to exist. I can buy or download what I want from the Internet when I like. I can get anything rare from eBay. Why would I go to a record shop? I see nothing being actually done about this by the mainstream music industry. People need to move with the times. Hopefully, in time record companies will realize they aren't doing what their customers want, and they'll either come up with something useful or go work in a call center instead. To be fair, there are record shops adding value—Alt.vinyl in Newcastle, Boomkat and Piccadilly in Manchester, Rare and Racey in Sheffield, that great little place in Brighton—and there are some fine 'real' labels too: Essence, Die Stadt, Alien8, Utech. I take it back; the music industry has never been healthier! < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> It just shows that some millionaires out there understand reality, and some don't. < p>
Bowman:< b> More significant than that with Radiohead, it's effectively a free download that it isn't done through a company; it's just through their Web site. That's what we do. Radiohead gets it all; why would they want a record company? What could a record company possibly do for us? < p>
You've released half a dozen CDs in just two years. Do you plan on keeping such a prolific pace indefinitely? Is it difficult to find time to get so much recording done?< b> < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> Yes, yes, no, no. We make music, we release the music; it's that simple. When it's ready, we put it out. We have day jobs that suck the life out of us, so to make music in the spaces in between when we can grab them is how we stay sane, and we seem to be able to produce a lot of material in these spaces. We don't understand how some artists are so creatively barren that they take 10 years to produce a new record. < p>
Bowman:< b> We make so much material, art, music...we grow it like leaves. Before we've even finished work on a record, we always have at least one other thing started. We couldn't stop making it if we tried. This is what we are for. We have jobs, we have bills to pay, and we have to be cruel to make this music. < p>
You have several new releases coming out soon. Can you fill us in on what's coming out next, and any other plans you might be able to reveal?< b> < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> How long have you got? We've got so much music—hours of the stuff—and it grows all the time. One of our current projects, Ghosts< i>, will be a beautiful limited edition, full-color hardback book of art and photographs accompanied by a CD, although with the amount of material we currently have, that may turn into two CDs! We don't work to a schedule; we just release when we we're totally happy with what we've got. Getting time to record is always tricky, but we're both passionate enough to make it fit into our lives whenever we can. < p>
Bowman:< b> We've already contributed a track to Subvert Central entitled 'Catastrophe in Blue,' a 24-minute-long horror story set in near space, which will appear on their next vinyl compilation, hopefully later this year. We've also contributed another track to a forthcoming Lumberton Trading Company vinyl compilation which will all feature new tracks by Andrew Liles and Peter Christopherson (of Throbbing Gristle, Coil, SoiSong) among others yet to be confirmed, which we are very flattered about and will be out some time. We're making visuals to project whilst we perform; we have an imminent UK gig, and we hope to tour with Aidan Baker in the autumn, and we will shortly commence work on a collaborative release with Aidan. We're hoping to release the gig with a label and are still negotiating that. < p>
Ravenscroft:< b> There will also be sporadic, free, high quality downloads released exclusively via our Virb page. In the future, there will also be any number of limited edition CD-Rs which will be sold through our Web site and through net-labels and stores all over the place: world domination through saturation.< p>< div>

The Latronic Notron is feeding sequences and amp; controller information to one Apple Macbook Pro. The Sherman Filterbank takes a feed from a vocal microphone (used on vocals, drums, guitar, zither, tootlin horn and amp; thumpiano) and the output is fed through the TCfx and straight into the desk, but the other Macbook Pro controls the controller curves for both. The two Macbooks are synced over a LAN cable. Our Mackie SRM450 speakers are just out of shot. Not your typical studio monitors....It was a really creative setup, but we'll take it apart and rebuild it a thousand times in the space of a week.< span>

< div>
< div>
The guys involved are Kingsley and Alec and it’s hard to pigeonhole their sound, but there is definitely a bit of ambience and electronica involved. They’ll be serving up a night of eerie soundscapes at the first LeftLion Presents at the Orange Tree of 2007. So we put a few questions to them...

So how did you both meet and who plays what in the band?< strong> < span>
Alec:< em> I don’t remember where we met. I don’t think we ever did. I play the Macbook Pro, occasional Samsung X15, acoustic guitar and amp; bass, drums, djembe, piano, musical saw, Nord Modular, Latronics Notron, broken and amp; fixed drum machines, voice, Cracklebox.
Kingsley:< em> Yeah, we did meet. We must’ve. I can’t remember it either though. Samsung X15 and Macbook Pro as well as occasional tootling horn, drums, yang chin, piano noise, post hunting horn, Cracklebox, tiny drum, voice... hitting things with sticks.
Alec:< em> We create all our own noise, produce it, mix it and then turn it on its head and tear it apart ‘til we’ve got something that we want to hear... We're very particular. It has to be just right, but it can come from anywhere at all.
Kingsley:< em> Then we’ll often rip that to bits too. We have hundreds of hours of archived recordings, which get recycled distilled purified contaminated mulched and otherwise chewed up and spat out as something completely different.

Where did you both start out in music?< strong> < span>
Alec:< em> Playing organ in a Baptist church in the south east of England, when I was five I began. I’ve sat on the knees of Reginald Dixon and Robert Wolff... during one performance all three of us played ‘Chariots of Fire’ to a packed house on a huge Wurlitzer and string synth - there were hundreds of tiny automated clockwork animals that moved about to the music... incredible to believe, I know, but true. I haven’t found a more gorgeous string synth sound since.
Kingsley:< em> I fainted in the kitchen when I was about 10 and my dad carried me into the music room to recover... I felt really sick for a bit but I’ve loved music ever since.

What’s your favourite of your own tracks?< strong> < span>
Alec:< em> Void< em>, a long and frenetic track from our forthcoming Lumberton Trading Company release that is utterly mental, very intense, especially live. It has a horrible time signature, it veers from industrial acid to screaming ambience and it was great watching people try to dance to it last time we played it live. We made a video for 'Void' as well, which will appear on a computer near you very soon.
Kingsley: Faces of Fire< em> another new track where I sing like a sweet, sweet angel.. Also, The Untitled Wasdale Recordings< em>, our latest release, is still sounding fresh as the day we made it.

< p>What can people expect from the show at the Orange Tree?< strong>
Kingsley: We haven’t decided yet but it will be immense. We’d like to frighten people a bit.. Alec: Or at least intimidate them... confuse them slightly. 'Have they started?' Make them wonder how they could possibly be dancing. Like that feeling when you fall down the stairs and completely have no idea if you are upside down or not... total disorientation. Unless we decide to play an entirely ambient set, in which case we guarantee uneasy dreams.. At the end of our last gig this guy came up to us and said "I heard this noise and I thought 'I wish that was the band on tonight, but it's probably just the air conditioning starting up'" He was genuinely over the moon when he realised it was us. That was a big compliment.

What are your favourite hangouts in Nottingham?< strong> < span>
Alec:< em> Kingsley’s house, Selectadisc, Squeek, Alley Café, disused buildings. I like ponds, rivers, canals and lakes too.
Kingsley:< em> The Tap, The Pit, The Sal, Reflex, Game.

What was the last thing that made you laugh?< strong> < span>
Kingsley:< em> Trying to teach my wife to make a dripping noise with her cheeks. Alec: Watching him try to teach his wife to do that. It’s not easy. We went to see The Mighty Boosh in Derby which was also very funny.

What was the last thing that made you cry?< strong> < span>
Kingsley:< em> Trying to teach my wife to make a dripping noise with her cheeks. Alec: When I accidentally drove over a pigeon in town and the people trying to cross the road near my car got sprayed with blood and tissue. They were covered with it and pigeon bits got all over my car. I laughed ‘til I cried at that. I always thought they would just fly out of the way, but no.

What are your plans for the festive season?< strong> < span>
Kingsley:< em> Being continuously drunk to numb the pain.
Alec:< em> I’m going to be in hiding in the studio for as long as possible... I might cook my mum a nut roast, I suppose. Yeah, that’ll probably happen.

What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever been bought?< strong> < span>
Kingsley:< em> I don’t remember any Christmas presents. I don’t mean that I’ve never had any, I just have a really bad memory.
Alec:< em> A remote controlled submarine is. No, that was a birthday present. A good one, though.

What’s coming up for you in 2007?< strong> < span>
Alec:< em> More tattoos. Writing music. Buying records and machinery. We’re about to release a CD called The Untitled Wasdale Recordings which we’re really proud of it. It’s going to be free from our website too.
Kingsley:< em> We're also releasing it as a limited edition of 23 in deluxe handmade wooden boxes, they cost £23.00. More details on our website.'

What followed was 71 minutes of deliciously skewed versions of the following studio tracks:

1) Intro - 'The Side Effects of DHPG' (extract from Derek Jarman's 'Blue').< font>

2) 'The Final Stage of Trauma' - restructured from the 'Pieces For A Condemned Piano' project.< font>

3) 'Crossing the Sea by Radio'- a shattered digital interpolation of the original transmission.< font>

4) 'Staph Haven (Redux)' - a radical reworking of the original, barely recognisable.< font>

5) 'On the Dying Pathway' - also reinterpreted from 'Pieces For A Condemned Piano'.< font>

6) 'When the Patient Stars Breathe' - a previously unheard 16 minute piece in 3 parts.< font>

< div>

< div>

< div>
< div>

< div>
< div>
< a>< div>Interview with Leftlion prior to gig:< a>

'Formication are ambient dub duo Kingsley and Alec from Nottingham. By day they are part of the Nottingham city workforce like the rest of us. By night, however, they are bedroom producers intent on bringing their blend of musical chaos to the Nottingham public. We caught up with them before their gig for LeftLion at the Orange Tree to find out more...

How did you guys first meet up?< span>
Kingsley:< strong> It was years ago at work. We found common ground through our enjoyment of throwing things into the fan in the canteen and got talking about music when we found "Anticon are saving hiphop" graffittied in the lift. It was later changed to "Anticon are saving chip shop" and we no longer felt inspired, so we took a four year break.
Alec:< strong> I realised exactly what needed to happen two years ago at the Green Man Festival. I wanted to play there.

How would you describe your style to new punters? < span>
Kingsley:< strong> A mixture of waters, the Tears of Navarone, A sphere. We don't do things by halves...
Alec:< strong> If it was a vegetable, no an animal, it would be a blue whale but one that could live on the land. It's dark ambient electronica that will make you feel uplifted, but in a downbeat way.

Why did you decide to call yourselves Formication?< strong> < span>
Kingsley:< strong> It was a neat trick that only took 6 months to pull off.
Alec:< strong> We bounced 800 names across email for months. And they were all rubbish.
It says a lot about our music: a vague misunderstanding about sex, a general air of queasiness and confusion, leading to embarrassment. People like the way it sounds like a swear word but they can say it out loud. And, of course, it isn't even a swear word.
Kingsley:< strong> We had to get a name going and when we heard about it, we had to have it!

What different qualities do you think each of you bring to the group?< strong>
Alec:< strong> Kingsley brings humour. Not comedy, fluids.
Kingsley:< strong> Alec brings a general vegetarian aspect.
Alec:< strong> Kingsley brings his hair.
Kingsley:< strong> Alec brings hair too.
Alec:< strong> Without Kingsley, the songs would be shorter. There'd be just bass, no treble at all. We wouldn't need tweeters.
Kingsley:< strong> Without Alec the music would be more trebly and a lot longer. We try to avoid our differences as much as we can.

The influences you cite (from NIN and the Pixies to Marvin Gaye and Will Oldham) are pretty eclectic. How do you feel you bring all these elements together?< strong> < span>
Alec:< strong> We don't bring them together. We are influenced by everything we hear and we listen to a lot, but we like to sound just like Formication.
Kingsley:< strong> I agree, we definitely don't try and bring any of those things together. It would sound hateful.

< div>
< div>

What instruments and kit do you use to create the music?< strong>
Alec:< strong> We use real computers and handmade electronic devices. We have got people across the globe helping coordinate the search for the perfect bass drum.
Kingsley:< strong> We use non-electrical sources all the time: voices, djembe, tiny bongos and horns (We like nanotechnology and wood). We recently condemned a piano.
Alec:< strong> We have a very well-equipped studio hidden in the darkest depths of rural
Nottinghamshire. It's got everything in there: compressors, expanders, tubes, radios, floorboards, the works. You'd love it!

If you could get anyone in to hook up on a track, who would you choose?< strong>
Kingsley:< strong> Good question...
Alec:< strong> Vladislav Delay, Kanye West, Timbaland.
Kingsley:< strong> No, that's wrong, don't say them. I think the problem is that if you work with someone, you will probably find out you dislike them. Hang on... No, I can't say Jhonn Balance.
Alec:< strong> Any collaborations apart from the two of us would create friction, chafing. We'd probably split up. We're a delicate balance.
Kingsley:< strong> Hassni Malik of The Vitamin B12.
Alec:< strong> William Basinski.

What other music in Nottingham are you feeling?< strong> < span>
Kingsley:< strong> Cable. The Collar of Sound guy, have you seen him walking round Nottingham,
with his amazing collar, a Face-Off patch on his jacket and he plays the James Bond theme quite a lot.
Both:< strong> Modulator ESP. He's a big hairy guy with amazing fingers!
Alec:< strong> There's a great singer in my village goes by the name of Lance. Great voice, just like an angel if angels were hairy men.
Kingsley:< strong> First Blood.
Alec:< strong> Lorna are making some really good chilled out indie... we see them in
Sainsbury's. Does anyone remember 3rd Stone? They were good. And Bob Tilton.
Kingsley:< strong> Also that guy who plays the interesting Chinese instrument near the
Broadmarsh Centre.

What other music are you feeling generally?< strong> < span>
Alec:< strong> Coco Rosie.
Kingsley: < strong>Adult.. Ladytron.
Both: < strong>Jose Gonzales, William Basinski.
Alec:< strong> I'm getting sick of them and I'm going to delete them from my iPod. But I'm feeling Common's Be< em>.
Kingsley:< strong> Samsa.
Alec:< strong> That whole Dark Winter sound.

What's your idea of a good night out in Nottingham?< strong> < span>
Alec:< strong> Going to Kingsley's place, making some music, going really far away from Delhi for a great curry. When Stereolab played at the Marcus Garvey, Tricky at Rock City, Catpower at Bunker's Hill, they were great nights out.

Who is your ultimate Nottingham hero?< strong> < span>
Alec:< strong> I like the Little Fat Sheriff and the Snake of Nottingham.
Kingsley:< strong> Bendigo.

What was the last thing that made you laugh?< strong> < span>
Alec:< strong> Kingsley saying Bendigo. Serial Mom
Kingsley:< strong> The Mighty Boosh.
Both:< strong> We laugh all the time.

What was the last thing that made you cry?< strong> < span>
Kingsley:< strong> Breaking my toe.
Alec:< strong> The end of Donnie Darko.
Kingsley:< strong> The biting wind.

What was the last film you saw?< strong> < span>
Alec:< strong> Serial Mom
Kingsley:< strong> Catch Me If You Can

What was the last book you read? < span>
Alec:< strong> Timothy McSweeney's Quarterly Review. No.16. The one with the free comb.
Kingsley:< strong> American Psycho and Fluffy (Part One).

What can we expect from your gig at The Orange Tree?< strong>
Alec:< strong> Petulance. Throbbing emotions. Brilliant! I love interviews! The usual happy ambience of The Orange Tree to be brought down a notch or two.
Kingsley:< strong> They do good food - you could have some. Seriously, it'll be a emotional
night of uniquely unsettling entertainment.

Anything else you'd like to say to LeftLion readers?< strong> < span>
Alec:< strong> Keep reading the LeftLion, it's great! Come to our gig!
Kingsley:< strong> Bo!
Alec:< strong> See, we're actually a lot of fun. It's not all dark ambience...

Formication and Modulator ESP play at the Orange Tree on Thursday 19 January 2006'< em>
< div>
